Mount Olive Middle School Media Center
The library media center is available all day for programming, teacher and classroom use, new media access, applications, art gallery display, quiet reading, research, film making, technology training, and many other goals.

The goal of the Mount Olive Middle School Media Center is to promote self-education and life-long learning by providing resources to support the curriculum, afford recreation, and meet the information needs of the students and staff. The core collection of the media center contains approximately 12,000 books. The collection continues to be built with suggestions from students and staff.

The media center is run on a flexible schedule to provide access to the media center when it is needed by individuals, groups, or classes. All students are welcome to browse, read, or do research in the media center whenever their teachers give them permission.

The Mount Olive Middle School Media Center is fully automated with the Destiny software system. This online card catalog is available to students through the computer network. Access to the Internet, word processing, and other computer programs are also available in the media center.

Policies

Borrowing Privileges:
Students may borrow up to three books at a time. Books and magazines may be borrowed for two weeks. All library materials can be renewed, provided that there are no reserves on the materials. Reference books, software, and reserved books may not be borrowed for home use because so many people come to the media center each day to use these items.

Overdue Materials:
When an item becomes overdue, students will be sent an overdue slip notifying them of the problem. Upon receiving a notice, students should talk to the media specialist if the book in question was returned, lost or damaged. If a student chooses to ignore the notice for several weeks, library privileges may be revoked.

Reserving Materials:
To reserve a book or magazine that is currently circulating, fill out a green reserve slip and give it to the media specialist. As soon as the book or magazine you've asked for comes in, the media specialist will notify you. You will then have three days to pick up the book or magazine.

Lost or Damaged Materials:
Please notify the media specialist as soon as possible if you have misplaced your library books. You'll be given a list of places to look. If you check all of those places and still haven't found the book, we'll wait about a month to see if the book turns up. If it does not, you will be charged for the replacement cost of the lost book. Damaged materials should also be brought to the media specialist's attention as soon as possible.

Project Materials:
Pencils, paper, crayons, markers, rulers, and glue can be found at the student workstation. Students are welcome to help themselves provided they return the items they borrow.

Students are also encouraged to use the town's public library facilities, and may even take a bus to the public library after school. To do so, students must submit a signed permission slip to the main office.

BrainPOP
BrainPOP provides students with access to interactive video and quizzes on a variety or subject areas. It is available from 7am until 5:30pm.

World Book Encyclopedia
Everything from the World Book Encyclopedias is online! Includes maps, encyclopedia articles, and pictures.

Facts on File Reference Databases
Science, History, Geography, Multicultural, Health, and Career Databases. Includes a world atlas, biographies of famous people, and many definitions and diagrams.
