ESEA / Title I
📘 Understanding Title I Schools in New Jersey
Title I is a federal program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), reauthorized by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Its primary goal is to provide all children significant opportunities to receive a fair, equitable, and high-quality education, and to close educational achievement gaps.
🏫 What Is a Title I School?
A Title I school is a school that receives federal funds to support students from low-income families. These funds are used to improve academic achievement and ensure that all students meet challenging state academic standards.
📄 Parents' Right to Know
As a parent, you have the right to request information about the professional qualifications of your child's teachers and paraprofessionals. This includes:
-
The certification and/or licensing status of the teacher.
-
Degrees held by the teacher.
-
Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency or provisional status.
-
Qualifications of any paraprofessionals serving your child.
Additionally, if a teacher who is not "highly qualified" is instructing your child for four or more weeks, you must be notified.
🤝 School Parent Compact
The School-Parent Compact is a shared agreement between our school, students, and families that outlines how we all work together to support student learning and success. At Mount Olive Township School District, we believe that strong partnerships between home and school are key to helping every child achieve their full potential.
Our Commitments
-
School: We will provide high-quality instruction, communicate regularly about student progress, and offer opportunities for families to be involved in their child’s learning.
-
Parents/Families: We will support our child’s learning at home, attend school meetings when possible, and communicate with teachers about questions or concerns.
-
Students: We will do our best in school, complete assignments, and ask for help when needed.
The compact is reviewed annually with families and updated to reflect new goals and strategies for improving student achievement.
