Middle School Highlights
In the MOMS Makerspace, you’ll find kids using software to create 3-D models and printing out their inventions, building robots that they’ve designed to complete a specific task, working with virtual reality and augmented reality, and making podcasts and videos. The hands-on exploration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math challenges students with creating their own projects which often differ widely in scope and imagination.
Designed by zSpace, a leading provider of digital learning tools and 3D systems, the 30 specially equipped laptops provide students with an immersive, lifelike experience, allowing them to enter virtual environments and interactive with objects. Traveling through the human heart and circulatory system, manipulating gears, building robots, rocketing through space, and examining DNA’s double helix structure are just some of the experiences that are possible through the zSpace computers.
The popular 10-week course called Surviving Natural Disasters, is where MOMS students learn real-life emergency preparedness and survival skills that they can use if the unthinkable happens. Utilizing the classroom and the outdoors, students build emergency camps, plan detailed emergency and evacuation procedures for their own homes.
